2015 Queensland Easter Trail Report

A hard one to report on such a mess. the weather played havoc to the promotors and fans alike.

Night 1 Toowoomba Washed Out

Night 2 Brisbane, quick wrap on our only heat race at brisbane before the meeting was washed out:

Each heat group got a couple of quick hotlaps before the race got underway, with Gary Finglas and Steve Caunt leading the way for the start of heat one. Caunt got a great jump on the start while Kevin Titman and David Murcott, both from the second row, got caught behind Finglas as they raced towards the first corner. Murcott was able to slip underneath Finglas in turn two, but Titman ended up losing positions to both Darren Jensen and Steven Rowell. Rowell had a beautiful run on the inside line, slipping underneath Jensen when Jensen ran a fraction too high in turn two and then, in an almost identical move just one lap later, slipped by Finglas as well. Jensen chased Finglas for several laps, searching for a way past and biding his time waiting for the right opportunity while behind him Kevin Titman and Mitchell Gee both remained close by and ready to strike at the smallest of mistakes. Steve Caunt went on to take the win with David Murcott and Steven Rowell right on his tail. Darren Jensen crossed the line in fourth ahead of Mitchell Gee, Gary Finglas, Kevin Titman and Stephen Greer.

WASHED OUT AFTER HEATS

night three Toowoomba race wrap:
Hot laps:
The format for the night was draw and invert, though Robbie Farr proved early on he had the car speed to get the job done, recording the fastest lap of the qualifying runs with a blistering 11.369 second lap. David Murcott and James McFadden were second and third quickest with Peter Lack and Mick Sauer completing the fastest five. Andrew Scheuerle actually recorded an identical time to Sauer, an 11.959 second lap, while the next three quickest cars, Steve Caunt, Kevin Titman and Mitchell Gee, were separated by just 0.047 seconds.

Heat 1
Heat one started with Blake Skipper and Steve Caunt from the front row with Mike Walsh and Brandon Haynes close behind. Skipper got the jump on the start and quickly settled into the race lead, with Caunt in behind. The leading pair quickly opened a comfortable margin over the rest of the field while both Robbie Farr and David Murcott started to try and work their way through the field from the rear of the starting grid. Farr was magnificent on the highline while Murcott initially got caught behind Callum Zizek and lost a lot of ground in the opening corner. Zizek however had a brilliant run on the low line and in the space of half a lap had slipped underneath Robbie Farr, Kyle Caunt and Mike Walsh and set his sights on Brandon Haynes. Both Farr and Murcott followed him through over the next few laps with Farr working tirelessly to close the gap that Zizek had managed to create. As lapped traffic came into play that gap did close and in the closing laps of the race Farr was able to slip past Zizek. Still there was no stopping Blake Skipper out in front and he went on to take the win ahead of Steve Caunt. Robbie Farr crossed the line in third with Callum Zizek, David Murcott, Kyle Caunt, Brandon Haynes and Mike Walsh rounding out the finishers. It was not all smooth sailing though and post-race contact between Mike Walsh and Kyle Caunt saw the latter invert the N8 racer in turn two. Kyle was not injured in the incident but would unfortunately miss the second round of heat events as the crew worked feverishly to repair the damage to the car.

A Main
35 lap race , steve caunt starts position 8 from 22 cars .
With six laps left to run it was James McFadden from Robbie Farr and Blake Skipper, with Brisbane regulars Bryan Mann, Kevin Titman and Andrew Scheuerle in hot pursuit. Scheuerle and Titman put on a great show as they exchanged positions several times, but soon all eyes were on Farr and McFadden. Entering the final two corners of the race McFadden was on the high line, Farr on the bottom with Farr attempting a bold inside passing move within sight of the chequered flag. Only a couple of car lengths in front of the leaders Andrew Wright was flipping down the straight in spectacular fashion, while Steven Caunt, who was literally only a car length ahead of the leaders, saw the airborne car of Wright and backed off ever so slightly, completely unaware of the battle for race honours that was right behind him. McFadden headed towards the fence while Farr tried to dart underneath Caunt, with Farr beating McFadden to the line by just 0.278 seconds, after riding the left rear wheel of Caunt. Andrew Wright was not injured in the incident, with the race win awarded to Robbie Farr. James McFadden finished second with Blake Skipper completing the podium. Bryan Mann finished fourth with Andrew Scheuerle salvaging fifth. Kevin Titman was next across the line with Steve Caunt, Brent Aprile and Andrew Wright rounding out the field. Mitchell Gee, Callum Zizek, Jamie Bricknell, Mick Sauer, David Murcott, Brandon Haynes, Brandon Rawlings, Clayton Hart and Luke Oldfield all failed to finish the event.
